For this recipe, you can substitute McIntosh apples for the Granny Smith apples, to make a less tart applesauce.

Ingredients:

12 large Granny Smith Apples
1/2 cup Sugar
1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
1/4 cup Water
2 tablespoons Butter » or margarine
Prep Time Process Time Overall Time
25 Minutes 20 Minutes 45 minutes
Directions:

1. Wash, peel, core and chop the Granny Smith apples.

2. Place them in a large pot with the sugar, cinnamon and water. Simmer, stirring often.

3. Check the liquid level for the first 10 minutes and add water, if necessary, so the apples don't scorch on the bottom of the pot.

4. Add butter or margarine, and cook for an additional 20 minutes.

5. Mash the apples with a potato masher while cooking, or process in a food processor after the cooking is complete, to a consistency you enjoy.
