Creamy Stearic Soap

1 1/4 cups Stearic Acid
1/3 cup Coconut Oil
1/3 cup Olive Oil
3 ounces Lye
1 cup Water » distilled
Optional Ingredients:

Directions:

1. In a well-ventilated area, slowly add the lye to the distilled water in a heat-resistant container.

2. Stir with a heat-resistant spoon until the lye is fully dissolved. Set aside to cool.

3. In a double boiler, gently melt the stearic acid, coconut oil, and olive oil together until completely liquid.

4. Monitor the temperature to make sure it doesn't go over 105°F.

5. Once both the lye solution and the oils are approximately the same temperature, between 95°F and 105°F, slowly pour the lye solution into the oils while stirring continuously with a stick blender or spoon.

6. Using a stick blender, mix the soap mixture until it thickens to 'trace', which resembles the consistency of thin pudding. Trace is the point at which the soap is emulsified and won't separate.

7. If desired, add your choice of essential oils at trace for fragrance. Stir gently to incorporate without breaking the trace.

8. Pour the soap mixture into a prepared mold.

9. Cover the mold with plastic wrap to prevent ash formation.

10. Insulate the mold by wrapping it in towels.

11. Allow the soap to set in the mold for 24 hours or until it is firm enough to unmold.

12. Once firm, remove the soap from the mold and cut it into bars with a sharp knife or soap cutter.

13. Place the bars in a cool, dry place to cure for 4 to 6 weeks.

14. During this time, the soap hardens and becomes milder.

A good rule of thumb for freezing spaghetti is to slightly undercook it before freezing. This helps maintain a better texture when reheated. Making sure each noodle is well-coated with olive oil or spaghetti sauce can also prevent clumping and freezer burn.
