1. Cook the macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
2. In a small nonstick skillet heat 1 teaspoon of margarine until bubbly and hot.
3. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent. Do not brown the onions.
4. In the bottom of 1 quart casserole spread 3/4 cup of cooked macaroni.
5. Top with 1-1/2 ounces of cheese, and half of the sautéed onion.
6. Repeat the layer.
7. In a small bowl combine milk, egg, salt, and pepper, mixing well.
8. Pour over macaroni mixture and sprinkle with paprika.
9. Dot the top with the remaining margarine and bake in the preheated 350°F oven until set, about 20 to 25 minutes.
10. Serve hot.
