Qty unit Ingredient
2 cups
1 teaspoon
1/4 teaspoon
4 tablespoons
1/2 cup
5 tablespoons

Preheat oven to 400°F / 200°C / Gas Mark 6

Be sure to use really cold butter. This will make your scones rise nicely.

- Grease a baking sheet. Set aside.

Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal.

Stir in currants and add enough milk to make a soft dough.

Roll out dough on a floured surface to a 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out 2-inch circles with a biscuit cutter or a drinking glass, and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake in a preheated 400°F oven, for 15 minutes or until well-risen and lightly browned.

Serve hot, with butter and jam.
