1. In large bowl, stir together the cake and pastry flours, powdered milk, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda.
2. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in shortening until mixture is in fine crumbs.
3. Transfer to airtight container.
4. Be sure to date and label your container.
5. Stir well before using.
6. To prepare biscuits: Preheat oven to 375°F.
7. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
8. Add 1/3 cup water to 1 cup Basic Biscuit Mix.
9. Stir with a fork only until dough leaves sides of bowl.
10. Turn dough out onto lightly floured board and knead gently just until smooth.
11. Roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
12. Cut into rounds with floured 2-inch cutter.
13. Place on prepared baking sheet.
14. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
15. Makes 5 to 6 biscuits per 1 cup mix.
