- Grease a 8x8x2 oven proof pan. Set aside.
1. Combine shortening and milk in large saucepan.
2. Place on low heat until the shortening melts. Remove from heat.
3. Add brown sugar and stir until dissolved.
4. Add egg. Stir until well blended.
5. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt.
6. Stir this into the sugar mixture.
7. Add vanilla and chopped walnuts.
8. Spread evenly into prepared baking pan.
9. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes, or until a wooden toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.
10. Cool in the pan.
11. Cut into 2x2 inch squares.
