1. Wash the rice thoroughly, in a colander under running cold water.
2. Place the rice in a bowl adding enough water to cover the rice by at least 1 inch.
3. Soak for 1/2 to 4 hours.
4. Drain the rice. Discard the soaking water.
5. In a deep pot, bring the water and salt to a boil over high heat.
6. Add the drained rice, stir briefly to prevent the rice from sticking.
7. When the water returns to a boil, cover the pot.
8. Turn the heat down to low and cook the rice until the water has been absorbed, about 20 to 25 minutes.
9. Transfer the rice to a heated platter and serve immediately.
