Fava Beans, also referred to as Broad beans, have a bittersweet, nutty flavor and a tender, creamy texture when cooked.
They are most often sold fresh in their green pods, but also dried, usually found in the dried goods section of the grocery store.
The bean itself is large, flat, and green with a tough, clear skin that is typically removed before cooking. To do this, you should remove the seeds from their pods, blanch them in salted water, and then remove the skins before continuing to cook.
Dried Fava Beans should be soaked for 12 hours before cooking.
Forget the old wives' tale of throwing pasta against the wall to see if it's cooked. Not only does this make your kitchen walls difficult to clean, but it's also not the most reliable method to test pasta's doneness. There's a better way to make sure your pasta is perfectly cooked.
