Butter is a dairy product made by churning either fresh fermented cream or milk.

Butter is a semi solid product at room temperature, consisting of approximately 80% butterfat, milk proteins, and water.

Because it is mainly composed of fat, butter is a high calorie food.

One tablespoon, approximately 14 grams, is about 100 calories, which is similar to 1 medium sized banana.

Butter, either opened or unopened, can be kept in the refrigerator for one to three months.

It can also be frozen for up to a year. The taste and texture will change considerably after that point. It is best to buy only as much as you think you can use within a year.
