These dried, unopened flower buds give a warm aroma and pungency to foods, but should be used with care as the flavor can become overpowering.
Available in ground form. Cloves are added to soups, sauces, mulled drinks, stewed fruits and apple pies.
Cloves are often used in glaze for Christmas ham, in the brine of pickles and beets.
And my favorite; simmering on the stove in a pot of water. It makes a great room freshener, and people will think you've been cooking all day.
As with all spices, Cloves should be stored in small airtight containers. Keep spices in a cool, dark place, as heat, moisture and sunlight will reduce their flavor.
Usually found in the Spice Aisle.
