Coat the chicken breasts in flour seasoned with salt and pepper to taste. Shake off extra flour.
On the stove, in a heavy oven-proof pan, fry the chicken pieces in butter to golden brown. Pour maple syrup over chicken. Sprinkle with savory, thyme and sage. Arrange onion slices on top of chicken pieces.
Bake, uncovered at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes or until tender, basting occasionally with pan juices.
